Discover the summit craters of Mount Etna on a guided hike lasting about 5–6 hours, starting from the Sapienza Refuge at an elevation of 1,900 meters.

The excursion begins with an ascent by cable car and jeep to 2,800 meters, from where you’ll continue on foot, accompanied by a guide, to the summit craters. Along the way, you’ll traverse landscapes shaped by volcanic activity and get a close-up view of the Bocca Nuova, Voragine, Northeast, and Southeast craters, discovering the geological features of one of Europe’s most active volcanoes.

After exploring the summit area, begin your descent along the slopes of volcanic ash until you reach the Belvedere della Valle del Bove. From here, you can admire a spectacular volcanic caldera and enjoy a unique view of Mount Etna’s eastern flank.

Continue along the imposing eruptive cone of the Laghetto crater until you reach the cable car station, which will take you back to the Sapienza Refuge. This hike is classified as difficult and is recommended for those who are physically fit and accustomed to challenging hikes. It is not recommended for those with heart conditions.
