Etna off-road excursion from Piano Provenzana

Linguaglossa, Sicily - See map
New

The’excursion starts from Piano Provenzana (1,800 m), on the northern slope of’Etna, aboard special 4×4 latest-generation off-road vehicles, duly authorized by’Etna Park Authority.

Accompanied by licensed mountain or volcanological guides, you will begin a fascinating journey to the summit area of the volcano along a scenic road that crosses ancient craters and spectacular lava flows.

During the hike, several stops are planned at the most suggestive spots on the northern slope of’Etna.

The first stop è at the ruins of’Hotel Le Betulle, today the only structure still visible among those destroyed by the powerful lava flow of October 27, 2002.

You then continue to the Umberto and Margherita craters, located at an altitude of about 2,380 meters, where è you can take a short walk along the rim of these impressive extinct craters and observe closely the traces of past volcanic activity.

The hike continues until you reach Pizzi Deneri and the Volcanological Observatory, located at about 2,850 meters above sea level, one of the most spectacular vantage points on Etna. From here, with favorable weather conditions, the view sweeps over the summit craters, the majestic Bove Valley and as far as the Ionian coast.

The last part of the experience leads into the eruptive theater of the 2002 eruption, where there is a short trek among lava flows and characteristic button craters, evidence of the extraordinary force of nature that shaped the volcano.

At the end of the excursion, we return to Piano Provenzana aboard 4x4 vehicles, concluding a unique experience discovering Etna and its volcanic landscapes.
