The 10 best things to do in the Fassa Valley in winter and summer

Horseback riding in Colico, at the northern tip of Lake Como. The rides are 1 to 2 hours with American saddle, suitable even for those who do not know how to ride a horse. You get 5 min in the field to learn a little bit.

You start at the riding stables, go to the lake, go to the beach (unless it's unusable), go through the fields and back to the ranch. You can also do 2-hour ones: you go down to the lake and go up to the Valtellina doing some forest.

You can also take a dip in the river or lake with your horse in warmer weather. Winter walks in the snow are also very popular.

The rides are accompanied by an equestrian guide who will take you to the spaces of the farm’or the immediate surroundings. You can admire and discover new territories among nature, landscapes such as Lake Como (on the eastern side), rivers and mountains.

In case of bad weather, the moment the riding school deems the outing impractical, you will be entitled to move your reservation or receive full refund.

The ride is not allowed for children under 14 years of age.

The horseback riding routes along the banks of the river in Valchiavenna, above Lake Como, vary in duration. They can last 1h, 2h or 3h and are suitable for everyone, including beginners.

Children over 6 can ride a pony, but if they are younger they will not be able to participate.

For the horseback riding excursion you will be provided with all the equipment you need to ride a horse, including helmet. The price is inclusive of insurance

Recommended clothing includes closed shoes and long pants.

Walking with alpacas in in Valdidentro between Bormio and Livigno is a whole experience to be enjoyed in the company of docile and curious animals, trained to be walked easily. Alpacas have a good temperament and a very sweet and friendly appearance.

In addition to getting to know your friendly new four-legged friends, you will come into contact with magnificent trails that crisscross the Stelvio National Park, and during the walk, your guide will tell you lots of interesting facts to give you a thorough understanding of these wonderful creatures and the landscape around you.

For children/youth under the age of 13 the presence of an adult during the walk is required; all participants in the experience are considered paying regardless of whether they have an alpaca/lama.

Night snowmobile excursion departing from Tonale Pass at about 7 pm. The snowmobile ride takes about 1 hour, after which we stop at a restaurant directly on the ski slopes for dinner.

At the end of dinner, around 11:00 p.m., we get back on the snowmobile and in about 15 minutes return to the valley.

The hut where you dine may be the Faita (Lombard side) or the Mirandola (Trentino side) depending on availability and customer willingness.

Included in the dinner are:

On the way back, the route is a little shorter (lasts about 15min).

Horseback riding near Ponte di Legno, departing from Temù. The rides last about an hour, at the end of which we return to the stable and have an aperitif. 

You will pass through forests and more sloping areas, and in winter you will have the opportunity to walk in the snow. The panorama è very beautiful and open to the mountains of the Brescia area.

At the end of the walk, if purchased, an aperitif of typical products will be served in the stable with the horses.

The aperitif è available from April 15 to October 30.

Wine tasting at a Lake Como winery, with the opportunity to walk outdoors among the vineyards and production areas of a local farm.  

The tour includes the historic family-owned wineries and a tasting of 3 selected home-produced wines. The tastings are accompanied by platters of local cheeses and cured meats to enhance the flavors of the wines offered.

Horseback riding on the Altopiano dei Sette Comuni plateau in Asiago will allow you to have a unique experience riding a horse.

The excursions are also suitable for beginners, in fact, before the walk the guide will explain how to mount and teach you the commands to best ride the horse.

You can choose from 1- or 2-hour hikes in which you will immerse yourself in the peaceful forests and grasslands of the Plateau. The rides are available from April through November.

Sportswear with long pants and closed shoes is required to participate in the walk.

Walking in the woods in Val di Sole, suitable for beginners. The horseback ride is always organized in the company of a horseback riding guide.

1-hour ride

Leaving from the riding school, we take the path that between forest and countryside will take us to the gates of the village of Pellizzano.

It’s a loop trail mainly at the pace. Depending on the level of the group, it will be possible to include stretches of leading at a trot.

2-hour walk

The 2-hour horseback ride will take you along forest trails to Ossana, at the foot of Castel San Michele. It is a pace and trot route, recommended for riders with a minimum of experience.

You will end the horseback riding experience with a delicious lunch at the farmhouse with a 4-course menu that includes an appetizer, a first course, a second course and a dessert and from which drinks are excluded.

Lunch is bookable only in one time slot per tour:

•    1-hour walk: 11 a.m.
•    2-hour walk: 10 a.m.

In the months of May and November, the lunch option is not available.

When booking you can choose between two options.

1-hour walk

The excursion is suitable for everyone, even beginners. Upon your arrival there will be a short riding lesson in the riding stables to learn how to ride and then leave with the 1-hour walk.

The scenic route takes you through the green forests of Val Gardena until you reach the World Cup ski slope and then back to the riding stables.

Hiking boots or after-ski boots are required for all snowshoeing in the Fassa Valley and it is recommended to bring a backpack with a wind/rain jacket, water bottle and snacks.

Let yourself be transported by a snowmobile piloted by an experienced guide to a typical cabin in Val di Fassa, one of the most beautiful valleys in the Dolomites in Trentino.

The experience is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. in Campitello di Fassa, where a guide will be waiting for you to take you to the hut by snowmobile along snowy trails (about 20 min).

The lodge is located in Val Duron, one of the four Ladin valleys in the Fassa Valley area, nestled among the Dolomite rocks of Sasso Piatto and Catinaccio (a UNESCO World Heritage Site).

You can choose from two different options (Drinks not included):
- Single Dish: one dish from a first or second course chosen from the menu and dessert.
- Full Menu: an appetizer, a single dish between first or second course chosen from the menu and dessert.

Among the specialties of the lodge you can choose first courses such as tagliatelle with venison ragout or porcini mushrooms, the trio of dumplings (spinach speck and cheese). Rifugio Burz is a recently built facility that combines tradition and modernity, both in its location and in its cuisine. Located at 1963 m asl, it is part of the Sellaronda circuit, a ski tour that connects the four Dolomite passes around the Sella massif.
