Destinations in Italy for Tastings

Oil tastings in Italy: what to know

Italy offers an incredible variety of oil mills, farms and estates surrounded by greenery, easily accessible from both big cities and lake or seaside resorts. From the hills of Veneto to the centuries-old olive groves of Puglia, via lake experiences and organized tastings even in the city, oil tourism is an increasingly popular activity.

Extra virgin olive oil tastings allow people to discover the different local cultivars, learn to recognize scents and sensory characteristics and understand production techniques, from harvesting to pressing. Many mills offer guided tours among the olive groves and tasting moments accompanied by typical local products, such as artisanal bread, cheeses and cured meats.

Often farms also organize special events, such as aperitifs among the olive trees, tasting lunches or lake-view sunset experiences, perfect for those who want to experience an authentic and convivial moment. The price of a tasting varies depending on the duration of the experience and any food pairings included: it is generally between €15 and €50 per person.

Whether it is an out-of-town trip, a romantic experience or an activity to share with friends and family, oil tastings-from Veneto to Puglia, on the lake or in the city-represent a unique opportunity to discover one of the symbolic products of Italian tradition.
